Cheap holidays abroad are easier to arrange than many might think, especially for adventurous spirits willing to trade a little unnecessary pampering for huge savings. From charming self-catered cottages to zany hostels with communal kitchens, intrepid travellers discover delightful adventures in foreign lands are possible even on a very modest budget.

Naturally, the internet is an invaluable tool for finding bargain holiday packages at major tourist destinations as well as off-the-beaten path deals not offered by typical travel agents. Some websites offer side-by-side comparison rates for chain hotels, airfare cost and car rental services for comparison in a given area. These services rarely mention those smaller, and cheaper, family owned businesses, though. They can only be found by digging through reviews and blogs by previous travellers eager to share their discovery.

Travelling on a budget does not necessarily mean roughing it, either. Many of the boutique hotels and hostels offer quite homey accommodations in sparkling clean facilities with a friendly staff full of helpful tips on nearby sights and warnings about the local tourist traps. Often these facilities include a free tour of the region or at least maps that guide guests on a walking tour that starts at their front door. Sometimes they even have bicycles and motor scooters available for guest excursions.

Meals are another issue that can burn up a lot of a holiday budget unless given careful consideration. Selecting accommodations with self-catering facilities can go a long way towards keeping costs down since there is the option of preparing meals and snacks and saving leftovers for later. With some friendly questions, travellers often are directed to local eateries that offer excellent food at a fraction of the cost for the same fare in a fancier setting.

Transportation costs are often the biggest budget wreckers. Savvy travellers in major cities seek out single purchase passes which provide the holder with unlimited free access to public transportation for a specific period of time so there is no need to pay for individual rides. Often these passes grant additional discounts at popular attractions, historical sites, restaurants and shopping venues.

Marrakech – Snakes, costumbrist and other exotic characters in Jemaa El Fna square

One of the icons of the square Jemaa El Fna square in Marrakech, in Morocco, are the exotic and diverse characters you’ll find during your multiple visits to the same.

The rhythmic sound of flutes will tell you that the snake charmers have deployed their carpets where contonean striking cobras and Adders crowd. When moved by curiosity approach to quickly see the show, you “assail” with a serpent in his hand with the intention of colgár you to the neck.

The purpose is that you you a photo with the serpent, in exchange for which you are going to demand a tip. The same is true with loves monkeys that also focus on the plaza: expect that you you a photo along with group in exchange for a tip.

If you really have the curiosity to have a snake in your hands, or colgár you neck, you come without a problem and you will make the pictures you want. Do not be afraid by the alleged dreadfulness of the serpent, because being in the hand are not poisonous.

My advice is that the first thing you have to do is give them entry a small tip (5 dirhams, 45 euro , is enough) to let you make a picture.

Entry you will be asked more money, but tell them that it is enough with what you give them. They will accept it. But if, for example, you want to make photos with all your guests, you will need to expand the amount of the gratuity; so “require you” even to cry.

If instead the snakes produce you rejection, it is better that when you hear the sound of the flute, or you too close by where are the Charmers, so do not consider that are “inviting them” wear you neck.

Perhaps the most famous enclave of all Morocco, and without a doubt, the nerve center of the activity of Marrakech, the Jemaa El Fna square you will surprised by its enormous dimensions despite being located in the Centre of the Medina, a true network of narrow streets and passageways.

When you visit Marrakech and you move around the historical Medina, all routes will converge to the Jemaa El Fna square, with an elongated shape stretching from the great spiritual centre of the city, the great Tower, or Minaret of the Koutoubia mosque.

The name of the Jemaa El Fna square has a meaning of Assembly or meeting, which is due to that in the past was a great arenal where outlining the bodies and the severed heads of the executed.

During your tourist stay in Marrakech, you will visit this place during the day, whenever you want to miss the incredible swarm of shops which is adjacent to the plaza Bazaar. And also during the night, when the square changes scenario and is filled with kiosks where people stand for dinner.

Therefore, when you already get to Marrakech, and you’ve settled minimally in the special pace of life in this city, plan adequately your different visits to the Jemaa El Fna square in order to enjoy its different scenarios.

During the morning, the great movement of people in the square is also disturbed by the continuing wandering of cars, motorbikes and bikes, so you have to have much attention when it comes to get around this large Esplanade.

Stores surrounding the square already show a great atmosphere. An obliged appointment is to go to one of the viewpoints that have restaurants and cafés surrounding the square with panoramic views of the same to see the continuous bustle there is in it.

In addition, the call from the speakers to the successive religious offices of several mosques which are distributed by square Jemaa El Fna square in Marrakech cause a continuous movement of parishioners by it.

When you walk through the square throughout the day, you move under the sound of the flute of the snake charmers. Or between amaestradores of apes and other exotic characters like the aguadores or sellers of dentures. And always with the invitation to take a juice orange or dates in any of the numerous stalls that are distributed through the square.

Average afternoon you look surprised by the arrival of a maelstrom of wagons with metal structures.

Soon you will notice that with this chaos, as every day of the year, is going to mount a wide area of beach bars of food, where soon we leave smoke Street kitchens prepared to feed the thousands of people throughout the night will come to the Jemaa El Fna square for dinner.

As soon as you approach the city on your trip to Marrakech, in Morocco, you’ll soon be able to see the large icon of the same, the Minaret of the Koutoubia mosque, which can be seen from practically all over the city, have become its central axis.

The Koutoubia is located on the edge of the Medina of Marrakech, close to the famous Jemaa El Fna square, the great mosque of the city, and its minaret Tower is the tallest building in the same (is not allowed to build any more high), with its 69 meters of height.

The Koutoubia mosque was finished in 1147, at the site where previously there was an Almoravid Palace.

But after the construction of the mosque, realized that it was not well oriented to Mecca, which is why the building was demolished and turned to construct a new building.

The first mosque, whose foundations can still be seen, its best-known element, the minaret was preserved. New the Koutoubia mosque completed in 1158. and a staff of 60 m long and 90 meters wide, has 17 buildings.

Square-shaped, and 13 meters in length on each side, the Minaret of the Koutoubia in Marrakech is an example of the Almohad art.

With apparent simplicity, but it is a careful ornamentation, which is different on each side. The initial decoration, however, been lost paintings and mosaics. Its needle with four large golden balls, who once said that they were gold highlights on its dome.

The interior of the Koutoubia in Marrakech only can visit it the Muslims, so you will have to settle for contemplating its exterior, in particular, its imposing minaret.

While can see you very well bringing you from Jemaa El Fna square, without a doubt the best place to enjoy its beauty is from the gardens lie on its West side, path of the Kasba, and is a place of heaven among palms.

In your tourist trip to Marrakech, in Morocco, when visiting the ancient Medina best is “lost” among its cluster of alleys to discover its beautiful places to live the great atmosphere there throughout the day.

However, to make good use of the visit from the tourist point of view, and don’t miss out on the top corners, you should know what are the essential visits in the walled enclosure of the Medina of Marrakech.

Then, and from my point of view, tells you 5 essential visits in the Medina of Marrakech.

1 Square Jemaa El Fna square and the Minaret of the Koutoubia mosque

This huge square divided into two areas is the hub of life in Marrakech. With totally different environments during the day and night, your visit to Marrakech should be marked by repeated visits to the Jemaa El Fna square.

Among its many attractions, from seeing the snake charmers, until hasta cenar dinner cheaper on the beach that night every day are installed in the square.

Likewise, from the Jemaa El Fna square you can see the Minaret of the Koutoubia mosque, the biggest in Marrakech and is the major hub of the city.

2 Souks of the Medina

Souks, a large conglomerate of covered streets where, grouped into different areas and offices extend northwards from the same square Jemaa El Fna square, the most many-colored tents where it is impossible not to fall to the temptation to buy, you find that Yes, with the typical process of haggling.

3 Madrasah Ben Youseff

Right in the Northern límte of the souks in the Medina of Marrakech, you find the Madrasah Ben Youseff, a former Koranic school of the 16th century, from the architectural point of view, one of the most beautiful spots in the Moroccan city.

During your visit to the Madrasah Ben Youseff you can enjoy a sublime decoration that blends the stucco, cedar wood, marble and mosaics.

4.-Palace of the Bay

South of the Medina of Marrakech, and just on the northern edge of the fortress of the Kasba, you find the Bay Palace, a building which is a true work of art of Moroccan architecture.

Built at the end of the 19th century, the Palace of the Bay of Marrakech, extends in a single plant with a labyrinth of rooms and courtyards (has more than 150 rooms, although we will visit only a part…), where you can discover beautiful architectural places.

5 Tombs Saadies

And already within the precincts of the Kasba, on the back of the mosque, you should not miss the Saadíes tombs. It’s a mausoleum of the dynasty Saadi, built between the 16th and 17TH centuries, and that was hidden for a long time until it was rediscovered in 1904.

There are several mausoleums in a small garden and walled enclosure, but will it be worthwhile queue to see the impressive Hall of twelve columns, the corner most beautiful aquitectónicamente of the Saadies tombs, and possibly all Marrakech.
